People v. Cancer

People v. Cancer

The rate of people dying from cancer in the U.S. has fallen more than 30 percent in the past 30 years. Unprecedented scientific and technological advancements have led to early detection and better treatments for cancers and rare diseases. These new approaches bring renewed hope for patients and families facing a diagnosis and are shaping the realities of living with cancer today.

In the seventh annual People v. Cancer, The Atlantic illuminated stories from the front lines of cancer and rare-disease care, featuring the people impacted most: patients and caregivers. We also heard from practitioners and researchers about their work to revolutionize the industry and lead with a diversified patient-centered approach. And we explored patient-led and community-based strategies for prevention, healthy survivorship, and the race toward a cure.
