Burma Road

AN unpretending, desultory kind of travel narrative, very light and agreeable, written by an ingenuous young American who took the notion of going over the newly made road leading into Burma from the Chinese town of Yun-nan-fu. He made the trip apparently more ' to be a-doin’,’as New Englanders say, than for any set purpose. Being a gregarious, ingratiating sort, he picked up here and there a number of yarns which he retails in an attractive way, pretty well making them the main staple of his book. He traveled for pastime, wrote for pastime, and his reader will read for pastime, an honest transaction all round.
