ODDLY, though Baltimore was a great headquarters of privateering in the War of 1812, no competent account of its activities has appeared until now. In fact, the authors say, the general subject of privateering has escaped the attention of historians. If the story of our other ports is anywhere near as interesting as this, it certainly invites notice. The work is well documented, admirably written, and can hardly be excelled as a stirring narrative of maritime adventure.
