OSA and Martin Johnson managed to become an American institution years ago — about simultaneously with the first showing of those great elephants bathing in a black, flower-strewn jungle pool. Osa’s story of their lives is a minor American saga. Two kids from Kansas with no money, no caution, and no sense that anything you want to do is impossible, set out equipped with high hearts and a couple of cheap suitcases and went, in triumph, to the far places of the world. It makes good reading. It makes, at this dark hour, as good an’ escape story’ as you are apt to run into for some time.
