A YOUNG American from Montana inherits a ‘croft’ in Scotland from his grandmother and makes a pilgrimage to visit his heritage. Many things happen to him there, romantic and not entirely happy. A curious omission on the author’s part is that the pilgrim makes no effort whatever to look up his grandmother’s people, nor is her name mentioned. This seems unnatural, but Mr. Walsh is a ‘romantic’ writer and tells a good story, so why worry about details?
