Preface to New Poems

THAT which is simple is most subtle,
Said one with a way of holding my hand.
Where is the frontier of the soul and the five senses?
Shall we ride the ranch of imaginary fences
Or study the map of a probable land?
Let us draw maps and ride ranches.
The maps will include the sea also, which is most subtle
Of all symbols and not simple to understand.
