Committee on Admissions
By FRANCIS W. HATCH
1925
CHAIRMAN:
“Here’s a proposal that someone’s advanced — a broker named Smith as a resident member.”
COMMITTEE in chorus:
“Preposterous! No — not a Chinaman’s chance. The waiting list’s full till five years from December.”
1943
CHAIRMAN:
“Does someone know Smith — he’s a prospect for sure. If we work on him hard, I believe he might fall.”
COMMITTEE enthusiastically:
“Put him down on the list to receive the brochure. And each of us better go over and call!”
