Spring in Spain

by MacKinley Helm. Harcourt, Brace, $5.00.
An urbanely written travelogue, full of what Aldous Huxley has called “culture gossip,” but free of pedantry. In the tone of a civilized man gossiping lightheartedly about his interests, Mr. Helm tells us a great deal about Spanish art and architecture, history and tradition. He has a keen eye for local color; and he writes as warmly and knowledgeably about the wines of Jerez, gastronomy, and Spanish innkeepers as he does about Baroque cathedrals and the paintings of Murillo. There is much lore about the lives of Saints and quite a lot of pleasant anecdotage.
