Hospitality

by WINONA McCLINTIC
LITTLE beast behind the rafter,
Is it raisins you are after?
Have a cornflake;
Carve the cupcake.
Will you share a dish of tay?
Ought I offer you canned pease?
“— more cheese! —”
Little creature of the alley,
Are you hungry, are you really?
Gnaw on cold cuts;
Chaw Brazil nuts.
Can you try my consommé?
Taste these lights and livers, please.
“— More Cheese! —”
Little monster in the night,
In rye biscuits you may bite.
Munch this mustard;
Crunch some custard.
Could you care for curds and whey,
Spicy ham or mess of pottage,
Heated Spam or pot of message,
Shrimp, crab, lobster from the seas?
“— MORE CHEESE! —”
