Handel: The Twelve Concerti Grossi (Fritz Lehmann Conducting Members of the Bamberg Symphony; Decca: Four 12" LPS in Album)

If Handel was a German, this wondrously delicate, crystal-clear, decorous and disciplined performance of the Twelve Grand Concertos may deserve the word “definitive.” It is a pure delight. If he was an Englishman, however, the jovial drama of the Boyd Neel series on London (not complete yet, and destined to cost $6 more) must get the nod. This reviewer favors the English version, but could live happily ever after with either. Choose as you will, here; either way, you get one of the endlessly satisfying treasures in modern recorded music.
