Joan Sutherland in the Golden Age of Operetta
(with Bonynge — who else? — conducting the New Philharmonia and Ambrosian Light Opera Chorus; London OSA-1268). With her big voice, stately style, and tendency to swallow words, Joan is simply in the wrong pew in this two-record set encompassing everything from Offenbach to Romberg. Her proper world is opera: Sutherland go home.
