Bennet Fauber, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, writes: "'Misanthrope' has the extended meaning 'one who hates or distrusts mankind,' whereas 'misogynist' has the narrow meaning 'having or showing a hatred and
distrust of women.'
"There seems to be a gap for an equivalent to 'misogynist' that would mean 'having or showing a hatred and distrust of men' in the narrower sense."

Right you are, Michael. Thanks! It's fine for you, but I have to say I'm glad the word wasn't on the tip of my tongue.
