VOX POPULI

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

In Poetry Pages:

Also by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:

Santa Filomena (1857)
The Children's Hour (1860)
Paul Revere's Ride (1861)
Canto XXIII, from Three Cantos of Dante's Paradiso (1864)
On Translating the Divina Commedia (1864; 1866)
The Leap of Roushan Beg (1878)
The Chamber Over the Gate (1879)

More poetry from The Atlantic Monthly.
When Mazrvan the Magician
    Journeyed westward through Cathay,
Nothing heard be but the praises
    Of Badoura on his way.

But the lessening rumor ended
    When he came to Khaledan;
There the folk were talking only
    Of Prince Camaralzaman.

So it happens with the poets;
    Every province hath its own;
Camaralzaman is famous,
    Where Badoura is unknown!
