The book is the product of a trip to Russia in 1942, but Mr. Hindus sees the present as a result of the past, and with fine insight he traces trends and developments. “It is the Plans, harrowing as has been their cost, that are saving Russia from subjugation and from large-scale extermination.” The book is at one and the same time a plea for better understanding of Russia and a means through which this understanding may be achieved.
