December Stars

By LEAH BODINE DRAKE
THE Great Bear thrusts a bright paw forth
To rip cold honey from the Hive
Where hum the white bees of the north.
The sky-track sees Auriga drive
To rip cold honey from the Hive
Where hum the white bees of the north.
The sky-track sees Auriga drive
His blazing chariot through space
On wheels that burn with frozen fire;
Across dark depths the Twins embrace;
Crackling with ice the Chair rolls higher.
On wheels that burn with frozen fire;
Across dark depths the Twins embrace;
Crackling with ice the Chair rolls higher.
Orion, toreador of heaven,
Now flings his cape against the Bull
Who charges with his faithful Seven:
The tide of winter’s at the full.
Now flings his cape against the Bull
Who charges with his faithful Seven:
The tide of winter’s at the full.
Again the starry shapes combine
Above the sleeping fields of earth
To form the old, occult design
That once shone on a Holy Birth.
Above the sleeping fields of earth
To form the old, occult design
That once shone on a Holy Birth.
And once more lift the eyes of men
In a wild hope to see a Star
Which says that Love is born again,
And guides to where His Mercies are.
In a wild hope to see a Star
Which says that Love is born again,
And guides to where His Mercies are.
