PART of this volume is a reissue of God Shakes Creation (1935), a description of the Mississippi Delta and its problems. In the second section, Mr. Cohn records the changes he found in the Delta country on his return there last year. He surveys race relations with sad-eyed real ism; discusses the coming of the new industry; the social changes it has brought; the drastic effects of the mechanical cotton picker. But this is essentially a book about people. Whatever the point, there hangs a human tale to it, and Mr. Cohn really knows how to tell a story. His writing has the flavor of civilized conversation. His book is witty and mellow, pointed and informed.
