Tranced
Perilous at twilight,
Perilous to lie
On bare rock by lake’s edge
Watching the sky,
Gray film of cloud
And clear sky beyond,
Hearing bird’s cry
And water’s sound;
Nothing to strive for,
Nothing to be.
All intention
Drained out of me;
One with mosses
And moldering stone,
Steeped in a stillness
Like their own
Clean to the core
Of the brittle bone.
Perilous at twilight,
Perilous to lie
On bare rock by lake’s edge
Watching the sky.
Perilous to lie
On bare rock by lake’s edge
Watching the sky,
Gray film of cloud
And clear sky beyond,
Hearing bird’s cry
And water’s sound;
Nothing to strive for,
Nothing to be.
All intention
Drained out of me;
One with mosses
And moldering stone,
Steeped in a stillness
Like their own
Clean to the core
Of the brittle bone.
Perilous at twilight,
Perilous to lie
On bare rock by lake’s edge
Watching the sky.
