Hardly for the general reader or the casual collector, but this facsimile of a Mixtec manuscript now in the Austrian National Library is close to a miracle of bookmaking. No concession is made to nonspecialists who are vulgarly curious about the meaning of all those brilliant, grotesque, fascinating little figures that march across the pages; one does, however, learn a great deal about the structure of the book, and something of its debatable history.
