Ghost Mushrooms. First Place, Plants and Fungi. Nicknamed "ghost mushrooms" because of their eerie green glow, the scientific names of these bioluminescent mushrooms are Omphalotus nidiformis. The glow is very much visible to the naked eye in complete darkness. They are found in certain forests in Australia. Locating them and photographing them can be challenging as they grow and glow for only a few weeks in a year. #

Branching Out. Grand Prize Winner. On either side of a highway, gullies formed by rainwater erosion span out like a tree, in Tibet, an autonomous region in southwest China. To capture this image, photographer Li Ping slept alone in a roadside parking lot overnight before using a drone in the early morning hours. #

Giraffe Drinking. Honorable Mention, Wildlife. A low-angle shot of a giraffe drinking at a waterhole, accompanied by an oxpecker, in Zimanga Private Game Reserve, South Africa #

Goliath in Lilliput. Honorable Mention, Water. Decades ago, following severe declines in populations of goliath grouper, Florida banned their fishing, leading to an increase in the population. Now there are new plans to reopen fishing, which may put their future in danger once again. #

Morani and Friend. First Place, Wildlife. Maasai Mara, Kenya, November 2021. The lion on the right is distinctly older than its youthful companion. The old guy is one of the Four Musketeers that ruled Mara a long time ago, ruthlessly. #

Lizards and Windmills. First Place, Climate. A vibrant fan-throated lizard stands guard over his territory. This lizard was photographed in the Chalkewadi plateau in Satara district, western India, which is the site of one of the largest wind farms in the region. Researchers believe that windmills may affect predator behavior, giving a chance for these tiny lizards to thrive in this rocky plateau. #

Himebotaru. Honorable Mention, Wildlife. I took this photo on June 21, 2022, in Nanbu Town, Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Himebotaru is a small firefly that lives in the forest and emits a short and powerful light like a flash. I shot this photo with a single shutter, 60-second exposure time, and no compositing. #

Two Worlds. Honorable Mention, Climate. Aerial view of two different types of ice in winter: On the right side, the well established fast ice; on the left, the open water refreezes after a storm took away the ice. #

Wildlife Intervention. Honorable Mention, People and Nature. As a mother elephant is sedated, a veterinarian works quickly to diagnose and treat its calf's wound. The image was taken at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya on July 20, 2022. #

The Passage of the Mayan Train. Honorable Mention, People and Nature. The jungle of the Yucatán Peninsula protects a great biodiversity of species. Beneath it is the most important source of fresh water in Mexico, and the Mayan Train will be built here. This is a project that will affect the best-preserved jungle in the country and the largest system of flooded caves on our planet. #

The Storm Is Coming. Honorable Mention, People and Nature. I was at Varadero beach, Cuba, when I saw this huge cloud coming, then I ran to the room and brought my camera to capture it. #

Adi. First Place, Landscape. The slope of Mount Adi, in Navarre, Spain. We ascended through the forest immersed in fog, and when we reached the top for a few minutes, and the fog cleared, we could enjoy the winds caused by the low temperatures. #
